How to insert a copyright warning notice

How the notice is inserted will depend on the type of document. Outlined below are instructions for inserting the notice into a PowerPoint presentation, Word document or PDF document. However:

  • The notice should appear before any copyright material is displayed.
  • If there are multiply copyright items in one file, the notice need only appear once.
  • The notice can also be easily inserted into a webpage as a JPG.

This notice and an appropriate bibliographic citation will be inserted automatically when using Readings Online for subject readings.

PowerPoint presentation

  1. Open the PowerPoint and insert a blank slide at the beginning of the slide sequence.
  2. Download the JPG version of the s.113P notice.
  3. Insert the notice onto the blank slide. Continue working on the PowerPoint document.
  4. Save and close the PowerPoint document.

Word document

  1. Download the Word version of the s.113P notice.
  2. Either open the notice and begin creating the Word document or insert the notice by cutting and pasting it into your existing Word document.
  3. Enter a citation in the text box as required or delete the text box. Continue working on your Word document.
  4. Save & close the document, with the Word version of the s. 113P notice included, as part of the file.

PDF document

Access to Nitro or another PDF editing software will be required

Insert either the JPG or Word version of the notice into the PDF. If there is sufficient information on the first page of the article a citation may not be required, then the JPG version can be inserted on the front page. If a citation is required use the Word version of the notice.

To insert the JPG notice:

  1. Open the PDF document.
  2. Download the JPG version of the notice or go to the copyright warning notice for educational purposes page and right-click on the image and save a copy of the image.
  3. Log in to Nitro.
  4. Click on the Create and Combine command.
  5. Click on the Add Files box. Choose the PDF and the saved JPG version of the notice.
  6. Move the notice so it is in front of the chosen PDF.
  7. Click on the Combine button.
  8. Save the combined file where needed.

To insert the Word version of the notice:

  1. Download and open the Word version of the notice.
  2. Enter the citation details as required.
  3. Save a copy of the Word file and close it.
  4. Open Nitro.
  5. Click on the Create and Combine command, as you did in point 3 above.  Follow points 3-8, above.
